Once I hear those descending fast notes in a flashy rhythm, I get excited. Enrique Iglesias’ ”I Like It” is about to come on and I’m about to majorly jam out for 3 minutes and 52 seconds.
Despite the fact that this song is ridiculously catchy and that it has that “feel good” quality about it, I’m not convinced that its musically worthy of much praise. Criticized for its over use of autotune, the song has little variety to offer. And don’t even get me started on the unmistakably ”Enrique”-cheesy-as-hell lyrics.
But isn’t that what makes people love it? Nah. Its got the beat of the summer, a melody that hard to resist, complete with the undertones of Lionel Ritchie’s “All Night Long”. Not to mention it features Pitbull (am I the only one that has noticed that Pitbull is featured in like EVERY song nowadays?) to add that extra “collaboration” dimension that obviously is required for success. I mean, when do people do songs by themselves anymore?
Oh um and speaking of the terrible lyrics, what exactly is this song promoting?
“My girlfriend’s out of town and I’m all alone, your boyfriend’s on vacation and he doesn’t need to know"
“My girlfriend’s out of town and I’m all alone, your boyfriend’s on vacation and he doesn’t need to know"
Is this talking about condoning infidelity? Not sure if that's the best message to send to America. The rest of the lyrics to the song are so vague, I can’t really tell. Sketchy.
Congrats to Enrique for making another chart-topper, its about time. It’s been like, what, 8 years? Took you long enough. Maybe you should spend less time water skiing naked and more time spitting out songs (http://www.tmz.com/2010/08/04/enrique-iglesias-naked-waterski-world-cup-spain-miami-july-video/). Just sayin'.
